Brussels has grown from a 10th-century fortress town into a metropolis of more than one million inhabitants. Since the end of WWll, Brussels has been an important centre for international politics. It hosts the main institutions of the European Union and is the headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Brussels is known for its local waffle, chocolate, french fries & variety of beers. The Brussels sprout was first cultivated in Brussels, hence its name. The city has over 40 museums including the Museum of Modern Art and the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, where there is an extensive collection of Flemish painters like Brueghel, Rogier van der Weyden, Robert Campin, Anthony van Dyck, and Jacob Jordaens.
